• Sky Theatre Challenge

  Over the last few weeks, a dedicated group of children have been preparing a dance performance for this special evening at Melton Theatre with a host of other schools. Effort was also put into costumes and make-up and we must thank the very willing and helpful parents who gave up their time to support us. The dance was fantastic and everyone should be proud. We were presented with awards for teamwork and supporting each other - qualities we hold very dear at Scalford School.

  

• Warning Zone

  On Tuesday we visited this fantastic facility again today and learnt about the myriad risks of modern life, both in the real and virtual worlds. This is always done in a practical, engaging and hands-on way. Well done Y6 for make the most of it. We were also very fortunate to have a volunteer guide, Helen Pearson, who had in fact once been a pupil at Scalford Primary School! She had seen the school's name on the list and requested us. She told us some lovely stories from the old days.

  

• Melton Proms

  Monday night saw a choir from Scalford join choirs from 9 other local primary schools for a magnificent concert in St Mary's church in Melton, hosted by the High Sheriff of Leicester. We were treated to a first half of exquisite classical music and in the second half, massed choirs, orchestra and organ joined forces to perform works such as Ode to Joy, Shenandoah and Jerusalem. A wonderful evening that will live long in our memories!

  

• World Book Day

  As usual, we all had great fun dressing up for World Book Day - some of us as characters from books, and others in snuggly clothes and with our favourite book so that we could find quiet corners and slip off into imaginary worlds throughout the day. We completed several different special activities and in our assembly, the teachers acted out a version of The Enormous Turnip!

  

• Bikeability

  Many of our Y5 children have been participating in Bikeability training this week and how lucky they were with the weather! 

  

• Young Farmer Visi

  Following on from their visit with a tractor a few weeks ago, representatives from the Young Farmers came to Base 3 today and talked to us about the next chapter in the farming story: 'From Field to Fork'. We found out about the large number of different jobs people do which help turn the farmers' hard work into the food we eat, ranging from nutritionists, to environmental experts, and chefs to marketing managers. They also reminded us that you do not have to be a farmer to join the Young Farmers (which meet in Scalford Village Hall on Tuesday evenings). 

  

• Messy Fiesta

  The theme of our Messy Fiesta was the Christian Value of 'Service'. As usual, we explored this through four activities. Firstly, children baked banana muffins as gifts. Secondly, they completed art for a display in school based on bible stories that illustrated 'service'. Thirdly, they learnt new songs and recorded them on video to send to Scalford Court Care Home to cheer up the residents. Lastly, they participated in a sponsored 30-minute workout to raise money for Cancer Research UK, the Trust's chosen charity this year. Phew! What a day!

  

• Irish Dancing

  Every child in school had a chance to take part in an Irish Dancing workshop today. Great music and good exercise!

  

• Art in Base 3

  In Base 3 we have been learning about artists who are activists and who use their art to convey messages and opinions. We used mixed media and a variety of techniques to produce posters that highlighted ideas and causes that were important to us as.
