Our Curriculum

Here at Scalford, we are dedicated to achieving the full potential of all children, by providing education of the highest quality, within a rewarding, enjoyable and meaningful curriculum that fosters a love for learning.

We take pride in our standards of teaching, supported by clear assessment procedures, which results in  good progress.  Our curriculum is varied and thoughtfully differentiated to enable all pupils to reach their full potential, inline with the Equality Act 2021 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 (please see our SEND policy for further reading).

In our school, teachers offer a range of experiences to provide the  best opportunity to learn. Also, we are committed to enhancing pupil's experiences through educational visits and residentials, 

We also seek to develop links with other schools, organisations, partners and community links, to further allow us to deliver a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum.

Art

Design Technology

At Scalford C of E School, Design and Technology is built on wide a practical experience, delivered as part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Building on prior and cross curricular learning, children in each Base are encouraged to think critically and creatively to evaluate exiting products. Through our nurturing ethos and culture of resilience, children are taught to take risks to design and make solutions to ‘real life problems’ whilst considering the user and purpose for their product.

In each project, children learn from a range of existing products and relate how design and technology are used in the wider world. Following focused tasks where the children learn specific skills they can proceed to design, make and evaluate their products.

English

At Scalford School we base our English curriculum on the Learn-AT Curriculum Map.  Each Base has it's own progression mapped out for each year group for phonics, writing, handwriting, and reading.  Please see below for more details.

At Scalford School we follow: Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.

Geography

At Scalford School we follow the National Curriculum for Geography.  Please see below for more details.

History

At Scalford School we follow the National Curriculum for History.  The curriculum has been written by school and includes local studies and the history of Scalford School.  The knowledge rich curriculum builds on prior learning of key facts and historical skills aiming to inspire pupils to be historical detectives. Maths

At Scalford School we follow the White Rose scheme of work which we have adapted to suit our school structure.  We are very excited to be working with the Maths Hub to further develop mastery and excellence in Maths across the school.

Modern Foreign Languages

At Scalford School we learn French as our chosen modern foreign language.  We follow the National Curriculum and have written a curriculum that is bespoke to our school structure. Pupils are taught by one teacher throughout their time at Scalford School to ensure consistency and progression.  Learning builds on prior knowledge to develop speaking , listening, reading, writing and grammar from year 2 to year 6.  Please see the document below for more information.
